Hormones – Not Just for Teenagers

Monday morning and first client of the day is a lovely lady who comes regularly for maintenance sessions for her fibromyalgia. She sits down carefully with a groan. “I have such a bad period pain” she tells me. “I may be able to help with that” I tell her with a smile.

The timing could not have been better. The previous week I had travelled in excess of 230 miles to the lovely county of Herefordshire, for a two day workshop ‘Hormonal Release – The Bowen Way’.

This amazing work by the late Trevor Rose of Australia is a series of procedures used for addressing many symptoms of the reproductive and neurological systems for both men and women.

When Trevor’s wife, Athalie, was unable to tolerate the drug Tamoxifen after her breast cancer diagnosis, Trevor worked with his wife’s cancer surgeon and a gynaecologist to develop a treatment to stimulate the body’s hormones. This approach was effective for Athalie and Trevor went on to develop further treatments for other hormone related conditions.

Bowen’s holistic approach has proven valuable in regard to many hormonal disorders. Problems that have been reported to respond well are:

  • Menstrual pain
  • Endometriosis
  • Fertility issues
  • Pregnancy
  • Birthing
  • Menopause: hot flushes and mood swings
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Loss of libido
  • Bladder problems
  • Enlarged prostrate

In 2004 – 2005 Trevor completed a small study trial on some of his menopausal clients. This study returned impressive results: 94% saw improvement in hot flushes; 100% had an improvement in period pain; 66% had improved sleep patterns; 89% improvement in joint and muscle pain; 69% improvement in depression; 89% reduced joint and muscle pain; 89% found intercourse less uncomfortable.

Before his death, Trevor, passed his valuable work to fellow Australian Ron Phelan who now teaches the work internationally. It was Ron’s class I joined on a sunny Sunday morning in June 2018. One of around 20 eager students I was not the one who had travelled the furthest – there was a Bowen practitioner there from the Netherlands. All of us had heard many positive reports about the Hormonal Release procedure and were keen to learn.

I left the workshop with a much greater insight into the issues caused by hormone imbalances; the impact that the problems have on people’s day to day life and, more importantly, the knowledge and skills to help address some of those issues.

My lady on that Monday morning? A delighted text later on that day informed me that already the benefits of the Hormonal Release the Bowen Way were being felt.
