How Can Bowen Help?
The conditions which clients present with in my clinics are varied and include:
- Back and neck pain
- Frozen or painful shoulders
- Knee problems
- Sports injuries
- Hay-fever and asthma
- Menopausal symptoms
- Arthritis (I regularly see clients with osteo, rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis)
- Fibromyalgia
- Headache/Migraine
Many people find that their everyday life takes a toll. Plasterers, electricians, plumbers, nurses, manual workers – physical work leaves a mark on the body; a sedentary lifestyle causes its own problems with increased use of computers, VDUs and mobile phones placing a strain on the neck and shoulder muscles. Sportspeople find injuries difficult to heal, leading to further injury.
Many conditions may respond well to Bowen Therapy.
Back, Neck, Shoulder Pain
Back, neck and shoulder pain – probably the most common reasons that the people I see are seeking Bowen Therapy.
Once they have experienced the gentle power of Bowen Therapy it usually becomes their first resort for future problems. These conditions make life painful; cause lost working days; ruin day to day enjoyment.
A regular client says:
“Since having Bowen treatment over the last few weeks I have had no problems with back pain at all. Prior to Bowen I was losing time from work on a regular basis, thanks Rosemary for the excellent treatment.”
Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS)
fibro = fibrous connective tissue, my = muscle, algia = pain.
Fibromyalgia is a syndrome – a collection of symptoms that, when they occur together, identify an illness. The symptoms commonly occurring with Fibromyalgia include persistent widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance, anxiety, IBS, headaches, ‘fibro fog’ and morning stiffness. Joint mobility is sometimes reduced but the good news is that the condition is not degenerative.
Bowen Therapy may be very effective for the relief of Fibromyalgia symptoms but for best results it needs to be a slow, gentle process. A regular client says:
“Rosemary is a pleasure to be with whilst giving me treatment and was particularly gentle due to my problems to begin with. However the benefits were immediate. Driving home from the very first session I felt my neck was freed up and more comfortable – this has been a particular problem for me. After three sessions I have noticed a very marked difference in my recovery time after pain is flared up – usually by me overdoing things.”
The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines asthma as:
“..a disease characterised by recurrent attacks of breathlessness and wheezing, which vary in severity and frequency from person to person. In an individual, they may occur from hour to hour and day to day.”
Bowen Therapy may be effective in reducing the incidence and severity of asthma attacks. A recent client was delighted in her daughter’s response to Bowen treatment
“..her asthma cough is a lot better and I now know what to do. I will be sharing with my friends as I’m totally converted to this…”
In a 12 month study to determine the efficacy of The Bowen Technique in the treatment of the Asthma condition, all the volunteers “reported that Bowen had made a positive difference to their asthma condition.”
Bowen For Sports
In the sporting world Bowen Therapy is being used more and more by elite athletes, not only to treat injuries, but also to help prevent them.
Bowen Therapy is being used effectively for athletes in various sports such as football, rugby, martial arts, running, tennis, cycling, swimming and golf. Not only to aid recovery from injury and enhance performance but also in the prevention of sports injury.
When you consider only 50% of sports injuries are in new areas, it means that a good number of clients present with problems that are never fully resolved at the time of the original injury. It also means that many athletes are leaving themselves at risk of further injury and missed training sessions.
